Alexanders

Smyrnium olusatrum, commonly called Alexanders, was a European import, originally known as Petrolselinum alexandrinum, Alexandrian parsley, and it formerly had many uses, some medicinal. I spotted it growing along the sides of the A12 this spring and one afternoon decided to photograph it. A storm was passing by, and I couldn't resist the imposing farm entrance seen in the first photograph in Hacheston. Although Alexanders can be found growing quite far inland, they are much more common near the seaside.
