Narcissus

I have never understood how the legend of Νάρκισσος relates to the familiar bulbs which cover the English countryside every spring. These days there are dozens of different varieties which extend the blooming period from early March right through to late April, but of course much depends on the season. This year most of the daffodils were over by the end of March, having put on their show when the weather warmed up to record high temperatures a week or so ago. And in those high temperatures, the flowers were blown far quicker than usual. Nevertheless, there are several varieties still in full bloom, and others yet to come!
