The plums are usually the first to bloom in late March, and mirabelle, those small yellow cherry-plums found in hedgerows, are all but over now. In our back garden there is a young greengage and also a well-established Victoria plum, and both are putting on quite a display at present. Woodpigeons love to sit and eat their blossom, but somehow there seems to be enough left over to give a good crop every year. The greengage blossom, just going over now, is followed by the plum below.
