Violets, Oxlips, Cowslips and Primroses

The banks of drainage ditches around the village are favourite sites for some beautiful spring flowers, and in particular, there are spectacular shows put on by violets, oxlips (Primula elatior), cowslips (Primula veris) and primroses (Primula vulgaris). The violets below are traditional blue, but they can be found alongside white, pink and yellow varieties. Occasionally there are pink or red coloured sports of the primula family as well.
